Using a continuous line as a starting point, Karin will share some fun new twists using line to design whatever you feel inspired to explore. Whether it be caricature, figure, landscape, still life, plein air sketching, idea/image gathering or dreaming!, this step-by-step approach will have you designing and refining with line and colour. And of course having some kinda fun!

Tune Up your skills of observation, composition and colour choices. With your camera and viewfinder in hand, we will zone in on small focus - gathering closeups of what we see..... in front of you, around you, outside your window. Reveal these small treasures in a framework of your choice. Borders and backgrounds will also be explored.

Using a compass and ruler learn to construct a geometric mandala. From there we will freehand patterns and motifs within these lovely leaf-like shapes. Emphasis will be on exploring greens with pops of other colours!
Constructing mandalas inspires endless design possibilities.

Add saving greys to your work and add more wow to your painting! Explore the importance of balancing bright colours with subdued neutrals. AND we'll have some fun with texture too!

By request........Wouldn't it be terrific fun to draw and capture YOU - your fantasy you - your kookie you, your Picasso-head you - even Your family - Your friends - Your foes (as if!!) your four-leggeds!! All in your own cartoon time and space!
We will create a vocabulary of features - eyes, nose, ears, mouth, expressions, from simple stick people to YOU with purple and green hair!! Create a fun version of you and your world and have a great chuckle!

This is a wonderful way to explore what a great variety of marks your brushes can make. Working in patterns inside the circle is a worthwhile and highly recommended discipline and a great exercise experimenting with colour. There is also the opportunity to use marker and pencil crayon..... wherever the muse leads! Creating these mandalas is meditative, relaxing, inspiring and encourages quiet intuiting.

Using prompts, we will use words and expressive line to make a visual statement about what is both behind and ahead of us. Colour will be added to reinforce the overall design.

You will be creating postcard-size works of art that can be snail-mailed to someone special - this could include yourself!  Students are encouraged to discover their own personal style of painting with an emphasis on having FUN! Where might your postcard be from?  Any place or time; real or imagined? Perhaps a note of thanks or encouragement from the heart?  From a dream vacation?  Postcard to GOD? Possibilities are limitless! 
We will glean ideas from some references and of course working from your magnificent imagination!
